Introduction

1. Educational Objectives

In the 21th century, various new materials and media have been introduced and in combination with traditional techniques, have extended the understanding of art, pushing beyond conventional genres and divisions. Transart has emerged as a new concept in contemporary art. We recognized this trend early on in the contemporary art scene and have been a forerunner in establishing the new study program of the Major of Transart.

In this major, students can learn practical skills and theoretical backgrounds centered on a wide range of materials including but not limited to: traditional materials and techniques of sculpturing, photo, video, new media, sound art and installation. Through a diverse curriculum, we support students with varied skills and backgrounds ranging from traditional crafts through digital media who seek to transition into the field of multi-disciplinary art and create works on the cutting edge of today’s art practices.

2. Great Facilities

Our facilities encompass spacious painting studios, high-end Transart studios, equipment loan center, photographic studio, black-and-white photography dark room, digital and analog print workshops, computer lab, 2D/3D multimedia lab, clay modeling workshop, stone sculpture workshop, metal and wood workshops.

The Chunma Art Center Gallery at Yeungnam University provides a Museum level exhibition space and our campus features a world class central library with an outstanding selection of Art books and periodicals.

3. Specialized Curriculum

General foundation education, multi-disciplinary curriculum across different subjects, media and techniques, practical centered creative workshop, studio class with each professor. Our faculty consists of a diverse team of professors and lecturers with international experience and complementing fields of expertise, educated in Korea, Japan, America and Europe.

    ART CULTURE IN DIGITAL ERA
    Due to the rapid development of digital technology in the 21st century, the arts culture has been drawing attention as a major field of culture industry by expanding its development into new media and fields. This lecture examines the changes in art culture in the digital era, its impact on society, and its future prospects.

    SEMINAR FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
    1. Summary of the course This course is to assist university freshmen in CRM designing to adapt university life well through the instruction and counselling of supervising professor. (This course is composed of self analysis, personality type test, career research, instruction for the success of university life, career plan and direction setting, CRM designing method and CRM designing. The course should be teaching in classes of the students by supervising professor.) 2. Course objectives This course is to motivate the students before the mid term exam and provide students with self analysis, personality type test (MBTI or TCI) and career research (YAT test). Also, this course shall has a plan to instruct the students to enhance the efficiency of university life through career and time management. In addition, this course is to make a chance for the students to have practical assistance to university life by providing study method, report designing strategy and the information on academic system and various kinds of internal programs of the university. After the mid term exam, the students will be instructed to set the direction of career designing through continuous counselling of supervising professor and the students will be able to establish CRM designing and execution plan.

    SOFTWARE AND AI
    Software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) course aims to educate the basic concepts of software and computational thinking to use them in various applications. It allows students of various majors to experience the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as big data, machine learning, and AI. It also introduces various applications of AI so that students can easily apply these technologies to their field of study. This course classifies the lecture types into three categories, and adjust the lecture difficulty according to the student's academic ability.

    BASIC 2D GRAPHIC(1)
    Manipulation techniques on digital image are essential skills for any contemporary art practice. This class covers contemporary artworks using techniques of photo retouching and resolution enhancing as well as image stitching and composing. Not only experiencing techniques but also studying examples by contemporary artists will be discussed in detail.

    AN APPROACH TO THE KOREAN ART
    This course aims to understand the characteristics and identity of Korean beauty by investigating the history of Korean traditional painting, calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, crafts and ornaments.

    CONVERGENCE- AND INTEGRATION-BASED THINKING AND WRITING
    The ability of analyzing and solving problems is emphasized as one of the conditions for survival in the 21st century and one of the core elements of creative capabilities. This course was designed to cultivate convergence- and integration-based creative capabilities, which are integrated problem-solving capabilities to collect, analyze and process knowledge and information by reinforcing the ability of analyzing and solving problems, recreate it in a synthetic fashion, and express it effectively through speech and writing. The course will help the students cultivate their synesthesia thinking and communication skills based on sympathy with other human beings, understanding of the community, and positivity or Gongseong that is sought after by Yeungnam University. Its ultimate goals are to promote the students' creative knowledge development and reinforce their writing capabilities consistently through "convergence- and integration-based thinking and writing as a problem-solving approach."

    SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION AND SERVICE
    This course is to cultivate community sense as members of society and the global village for students in order to develop the basic knowledge required as global citizens. Especially, this course is to foster the spirit of cooperation, sharing, service, and creativity and study the social contribution and leadership to solving the challenges the global community faces. As a liberal arts course, it is centered to nurture a leader having the global capability to contribute to community development through learning the knowledge and the case on the value & logic of social responsibility focused on environmental preservation, social contribution, and good governance(ESG). This course aims to foster a generous mind, learn knowledge and technology and build the capacity to contribute to building a society towards a safer and happier world through the study of theory and practice.

    In essential quality of Specific outlook and versatile applications in print and digital display, illustrations by vector graphic are powerful and popular. In this class we develop projects together that apply vector graphics to an artwork with aesthetic and conceptual manners. Basic typesetting and desktop publishing are further subjects covered.

    This class aims to study about DSLR camera instruction which is the basic technique of photograph, basic photoshop and digital photo printing technology and compact flash. Also having a various type of work experience. Student can learn overall process from production and installation to promotion and communication. With this activity, establish their direction of work.

    This is the basic process of producing digital video. For understanding and utilization of recording and editing, practice camera shooting and Premier Pro which is the basic tool of image video. With enjoy and analysis, understand video production, and based on this activity, produce their own digital video.

    The lecture study about muscles and bones based on human anatomy, which are the basis of sculpture, and study and practice modeling features that appear in various poses and genders.

    We will study the concepts and the field, research methods of art conservation and restoration, and learn the basic knowledge, such as the fine arts and humanities and natural science as an expert in art conservation and restoration.

    We will study about the properties and expression of tree and lacquer. We learn the fractionation and characteristics of the trees, and suitable methods and techniques for the conservation of tree and lacquer finish.

    METAVERSE AND DIGITAL SPACE BY COMPUTING ART
    - Cultivating the metaverse industry and related human resources, which have been nurtured and supported by the current government as a national task. - Education related to computer graphic technology and equipment operation while creating and utilizing a creative virtual space using metaverse (special, ZEPETO, blender. motion tracking, metaport, 3D space scan, drone 3D scan, Oculous 3D goggles operation, etc .) - Space production using metaverse, educational cooperation with game and exhibition companies - Through the related graphic technology, the educational effect required by the industry (game directing, mobile game design, game background designer. interior, civil design, etc.) and related educational effects such as digital content 3D character and 3D image design. - Help students understand the metaverse and increase their understanding and adaptability through exchanges with related industry companies. - High-efficiency 3D model data education that maintains an appropriate level considering the characteristics of 3D modeling to build a metaverse environment(running quickly in 5G or L TE mobile communication). - Education for building a basic metaverse environment through relevant 3D technology and practice such as composition. character, and space production required in the metaverse

    THEORY OF TRANS-ART(1)
    The theory of Trans-art aims to analyze the characteristics of contemporary art by looking at various artistic attempts that have expanded the concept and scope of art in combination with technology media from the past. Part I analyzes the transartistic characteristics found in the history of pre-modern art and Part II focussing on contemporary art after modern times.

    FINE ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
    This curriculum is one of the required subjects for the second-grade arts and culture educator to acquire job competence in the field of arts, aimed to understand the principle of basic program development for art education as a part of the arts and culture education and develop the efficient and creative programs based on the principle. For that, this curriculum intends to strengthen the necessary capabilities for developing the arts education programs by making and demonstrating the teaching plans.

    LIGHT AND STUDIO TECHNIQUE
    In this class, student learn about principles and operation of light that is the basic tool of photographic image light. Studying about size of the light and shadow, effects of the reflected light on a surface, methods for determining the shape of the reflecting material of the subject, and method of application of studio lighting equipment and various technique of medium and large size cameras, and practice figures and still lifes, location shooting.

    MODELING MOVIE PROPS
    Research a variety of props production methods needed for movie-making. Also, practice the methods of using alginate and silicone which represent the extreme realism of the object , molding technique and handling styrofoam.

    SOFTWARE ART(2)
    The class is going to study one of a basic computer programme ‘Processing’ as the interactive art class. The ‘Processing’ is used to a multiple media art tool that is applied for visual effects from simple 2d to build 3d objects and utilizing. This is also a study of the digital image by coding which extends the diversity of art scene beyond paint.

    TERRA COTTA
    In this class student practice about molding method of pinching, modeling, coiling with clay and molding techniques with tablets. And study about concerning the properties of different intensity and color of the shape which appears after the firing. As well as research Fire effects due to changes in temperature and use of the furnace, a visual representation of the calcined clay with a complex molding techniques and the material and the properties that apply to a specific work of terracotta.

    The purpose of this class is to examine the characteristics of pictorial images, photography and visual arts, focusing on the timeliness considered to be a major attribute of art. To this end, modern and contemporary art images, photographs, and video works are analyzed.

    3D COMPUTER GRAPHIC Ⅰ
    This course helps students understand the overall process of 3D graphics and practice. It explores the close connection between art major students and their graphics capabilities. Through the course students train their ability to observe and learn practical techniques in the 3D Max Basics program.

    This class aims to understand characteristics of the metal material such as iron and non-ferrous metal, and practice producing skills through welding and cutting techniques.     VR & AR classes are the latest media content techniques that are actively progressing and developing.     In this course, student study about the properties and expression of stone, such as granite and marble.
